Elastic wavefield imaging with scalar and vector potentials

چکیده

We demonstrate reverse-time imaging using multicomponent elastic wavefields. The elastic data are used as boundary conditions for a numeric solution to the elastic wave-equation solved using a staggeredgrid finite-difference implementation. P and S components are not separated from recorded data, but are extrapolated together as part of a vector wavefield. A straightforward extension to the cross-correlation imaging condition used for imaging scalar wavefields leads to images hard to interpret, since P and S wavefield components are mixed on the vertical and horizontal projections of displacement fields. We use an alternative imaging condition based on elastic potentials, which reduces cross-talk and leads to images that are easier to interpret, since reflections of different wave modes are separated from one-another.

Anisotropic elastic wavefield imaging using the energy norm

Based on the energy conservation principle, we derive a scalar imaging condition for anisotropic elastic wavefield migration. Compared with conventional imaging conditions that correlate displacement components or potentials from source and receiver wavefields, the proposed imaging condition does not suffer from polarity reversal, which degrades the image quality after stacking over shots. Our ...

Auxiliary Potentials In Chiral Media

In the present paper, the expressions for scalar and vector potentials in lossless isotropic chiral media are analyzed. Propagating eigenvalues of these potentials are then obtained. Furthermore by decomposition of sources and fields in a chiral medium, we introduce the auxiliary right-and left-handed potentials and find the associated fields. These potentials are used to solve the problem of a...

Elastic wave mode separation for tilted transverse isotropic media

Seismic waves propagate through the earth as a superposition of different wave modes. Seismic imaging in areas characterized by complex geology requires techniques based on accurate reconstruction of the seismic wavefields. A crucial component of the methods in this category, collectively known as wave-equation migration, is the imaging condition that extracts information about the discontinuit...

sotropic angle - domain elastic reverse - time migration

Multicomponent data usually are not processed with specifically designed procedures but with procedures analogous to those used for single-component data. In isotropic media, the vertical and horizontal components of the data commonly are taken as proxies for the Pand S-wave modes, which are imaged independently with the acoustic wave equations. This procedure works only if the vertical and hor...

ELASTIC WAVEFIELD MIGRATION AND TOMOGRAPHY by

Wavefield migration and tomography are well-developed under the acoustic assumption; however, multicomponent recorded seismic data include shear waves (S-modes) in addition to the compressional waves (P-modes). Constructing multicomponent wavefields and considering multiparameter model properties make it possible to utilize information provided by various wave modes, and this information allows...
